No more cremations at Harishchandra Ghat
Bangalore,DH News Service:

Acting on the Karnataka Human Rights Commission’s directive not to cremate bodies at the Harishchandra Ghat in Srirampura, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has ordered to stop the cremation there from July 15.

Now the same will be performed at ward No 46, Chamarajpet burial ground, 5th main road, Chamarajpet.

The KHRC had registered a case in December 2007 on the basis of a news report that appeared in Prajavani, denoting the hardship faced by the residents who live around the Harishchandra Ghat.

However, till now nothing had happened.

A month back, the BBMP Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena directed the Chief Health Officer and the BBMP West Zone officers to comply with the order and stop the burning of bodies from July 15.

The residents living around the crematorium at Srirampura too had given several representations in this regard.
