The Maharani Underpass is all set to open by May 20, 2009.
According to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike (BBMP), the underpass is nearing completion, and the surface movement of traffic for LMVs has already begun.
“We have had some unexpected delays with functions and some works in front of the Bescom office that have to be cleared,” said an official.
Meanwhile, based on the review by the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, the BBMP has been asked to re-design the pedestrian underpass.
“The Chief Minister has recommended that the design be changed for the pedestrian underpass, so that more sunlight can pass through,” said a BBMP official.
While BBMP officials have categorically stated that no recommendation for redesigning of vehicular underpasses was conveyed to them, officials have said that the size of the grade separators will be 7.5x7.5 meters, henceforth. The current size of the Magic Boxes, which are in place at Maharani Junction and at the K R Circle underpass, is 6x6 metres.
