BANGALORE: Situated in the heart of the city at the corner of Brigade Road, minutes from MG road, a few steps from Garuda mall and a short running distance to Bangalore Central is the St. Joseph’s College of Commerce. The college is considered a teenagers’ dream institute. This institution came into existence as an independent college in June 1972 after being bifurcated from St Joseph’s College.” We have a glorious past and a bright future ahead of us. We take pride in everything we do here at this institution. Our students are our strength and the development of personality through a perfect balance of education and extracurricular activities is our main goal, “says principal Fr Daniel Fernandes.
The campus spreads over a small area which according to students is a perfect size as it allows everyone to mingle and socialise making the institution more like a family. The college boasts of a state-of-the-art basketball court, a massive football field, fully-equipped gyms, music rooms, computer labs and a sports room.
Cafeteria chitchat THE college’s cafeteria is a well-loved, hang-out spot serving all types of food.
“This is where everything happens, “ says second-year BBM student, Nigel Mathew.” I love this college and I think it’s the best place to be in terms of quality of education, fun and camaraderie.” Sachin quickly interrupts to add, “College is enlightening for us although we do spend a considerable amount of time in Kanti sweets shop and Cheta’s bakery that has been true inspiration to all Josephites for decades now.” Not just for bookworms THESE students are not all about accounting and money calculations. The college is most widely known for their encouraging staff who promote quite a number of festivals in the campus throughout the year. ‘Spiel’, the main festival of the college is considered to be among the best college sports festival in Bangalore and the students have most fun during this week.
Basketball star, Markesh, adds, “We have the best principal in the whole world. Sports are as important as education here because of him and every student is pushed to take part in some event or the other. This helps keep us healthy mentally and physically. I love the balance that is maintained here between studies and other activities and apart from class hours, I basically live on the basketball court.” The college also conducts ‘Dhawini’ which is its biggest cultural festival.
According to Rahul and Warren, members of electric and acoustic teams, “The culturals give us a refreshing break from studies and once again everyone is encouraged to participate. This makes our college life amazing because we get to represent our college in outside festivals also.” All year long students are occupied with some event or the other which also include music concerts and other social events.
