Ambedkar Veedhi: Alternative roads soon
Thursday, May 14, 2009, 12:00 [IST]

Dr Ambedkar Veedhi, scheduled to be closed by June end for the Namma Metro work will see two alternative roads open up on either side.

According to sources, the temporary roads will be laid on the lawns of the Vidhana Soudha and the High Court. The greenery will be restored on the completion of Metro work.

“The move will ensure that not all traffic will be blocked and vehicular movement can be made on the stretch,” said an informed source.

Traffic officials said that the initial plan placed before them by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has been ratified and it now has to now seek the permission of the Chief Secretary and the judiciary.

A BMRCL official said a presentation will first have to be made to the registrar of the High Court of Karnataka, after which the lawns on the court and Vidhana Soudha frontage will be barricaded.

“It will be done only after the High Court vacation is over” said the official. Nonetheless, the Traffic Police have said that no roads will be closed till alternative routes are ready for use. “We have okayed the plan but it is still a long way from being concrete as the interested parties, Government and the High Court need to be taken into confidence,” said traffic officials.
