Another dump yard, another layout...
DH News Service, Bangalore:
You would have seen garbage littered everywhere around the Bangalore city even in the posh localities. But did you know why the garbage is not in its place- the dumpyard?
Because the garbage dumpyard has been sold out! The piece of land, which was earmarked as dumpyard is so vast that people would not like to overlook it.
This is the garbage scam tale all over again, the only difference being the venue is different this time.
It’s now the Byatarayanapura in Mahadevapura division where 101 houses have come up. The detail extracted by an RTI activist under the Right to Information (RTI) Act from the BBMP revealed that in Byatarayanapura, the Town and Country Planning department had earmarked 53 acres and 27 guntas of land for dumping and disposing of the garbage. The entire area has been encroached upon and hundreds of hutments have also come up.
It is almost 14 years since the concrete slum emerged at Byatarayanapura and many of them succeeded in getting the Hakku Patra (Ownership Certificate) on the government land.
“It has been done systematically in connivance with the officials of the BBMP and officials of the urban administration department,” said the RTI activist demanding action against the officials involved. The incomplete details with the RTI activist shows the list of 101 house owners.
The existing market rate of the area as declared by the government for the registration of property is Rs 2,500 whereas the current value of the property is not less than Rs 3,500, claimed the activist. “Would anyone like to ignore such a prime locality. The value of the property runs in hundreds of crores of rupees and the officials are silent on it,” said the activist.
