Rally throws traffic out of gear

Rally throws traffic out of gear
DH News Service, Bangalore:
A protest rally by the Congress alleging that the BJP government had failed on all fronts threw traffic out of gear on Saturday morning.

The rally that began from the KPCC office on Queen’s Road and concluded near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on M G Road, triggered a traffic jam that brought to a halt vehicular movement on M G Road, Dickenson Road, Kasturba Road, Police Thimmaiah Circle and Queen’s Road.

Motorists cursed their fate as the vehicles lined up on the roads to facilitate the Congress leaders who took out a padayatra from the KPCC office which culminated near the M G statue.

Snail’s pace
The situation did not change for almost three hours. Vehicles just crawled at snail’s pace. The slow movement of the vehicles added pressure on the service and interior roads.

The situation limped back to normal only around late afternoon.

Earlier, a delegation of the Congress party leaders submitted a memorandum to the Governor. In the memorandum, the party alleged that the Government had failed to maintain law and order, provide manure and seeds to the farmers, protection of minorities, taking up relief programmes in drought-hit and flood-affected areas and in improving the power situation in the State.

KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Government has been misleading the public by making false claims about its function.

“Direct the Government to act as per the provisions of the law and provide protection to all the sections of the society,” Mallikarjun Kharge demanded.
