The trip to the New Bengaluru International Airport seems pleasant and safe for many passengers. However, there are others who think that security on the airport road is not adequate. This is especially so following the recent murder of a passenger by a taxi driver in New Delhi.

There are fleets of taxis lined up at the airport which passengers can board without any difficulty. Unlike the taxi service at HAL airport, BIA offers better luxury taxi services where touts don’t play a part.

However, the passengers feel that the police should ensure proper security measures after Kodihalli Cross and Yelahanka as the area is on the outskirts of the city. There are hardly any policemen to be seen on the route, they said.

“The police should have checks at important points on the new airport road. Private taxis and other vehicles plying to the airport should be checked at least once in a while,” said a passenger, Meghana Pai.

However, software professional Vikram Prabhu differs. “Taking a cab at the airport is safe. The drivers employed by the luxury taxi services are well trained and know how to behave with the passengers. I have never felt any threat to security even when travelling alone,” he said.

“Private taxis seem safe but the absence of cops on the road can encourage anti social elements as the road is deserted after Kodihalli Cross. There should police checks on the highway,” said a city based fashion designer, Harmeet Singh.

As a majority of the fleet comprises luxury cabs, the passengers find the experience more comfortable. “The luxury taxi fleet at the airport has cultured employees who take care of the passengers’ safety. Unlike other metros, BIA offers a better to and fro travelling experience,” said Rajpal Desai.

“There is a counter for taxi booking at the new airport and the customer can directly book a cab without taking the help of brokers,” said a city based doctor, Praveen Kapoor.

However, the counters are only for luxury cars and people who want to hire a private yellow board taxi have to walk down 2 km from the airport. The risk factor for such passengers is more as the driver’s details are not known.
