BANGALORE: The pedestrian subway at Basaveshwara Circle, work on which started on Sunday, is expected to be thrown open to public for use in a couple of days.

"A major portion of the work has been completed.

The work on the staircase is in progress; it does not call for disruption in vehicular movement," BBMP Chief Engineer (Major Roads), Krishna Reddy, said.

"Technical problems and hurdles like shifting of utility lines are bound to be there. We have to find some solution and continue with the work," he said, expressing confidence that the work will be through in a few days.

Three more The ongoing work is however only the first of about four such sub-ways marked to be located at the Circle. The roads leading to the Circle will then become signal-free and it is the only way the traffic at the circle can be eased, he said.

This apart, a subway is also planned near the Balabrooie Guest House along Sankey Road. BBMP will have to await the shifting of utility lines there too. The subways are being built using 'magic boxes' as the prefabricated units are called. About Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh is spent on each of them.
