Tender notification has been issued

Work is likely to start in October or November

Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has initiated the process of constructing five pedestrian underpasses at Basaveshwara Circle and another one across Sankey Road near the Balabrooie guesthouse.

According to BBMP officials, the tender notification had been issued and the work is likely to start in October or November.

Commencement of work would also depend on the weather, they added.

As the High Grounds junction had been made partially signal-free, pedestrians, particularly students, are finding it difficult to cross the road. The five underpasses planned at Basaveshwara Circle will ensure safe movement for pedestrians as the junction has been witnessing high traffic density.

Key area
It has become a key area for travelling to the new airport from the city, apart from being one the main access points to reach the Vidhana Soudha, Vikasa Soudha, Udyoga Soudha and Multi-storeyed buildings.

Technical snag
Meanwhile, though civil work on an underpass for light motor vehicles being built across Sankey Road from Cunningham Road Cross, near Hotel Le Meridian, is complete, the BBMP is facing a technical snag to connect the pipeline for the hydraulic water drain.

Alignment
BBMP engineers said that the drain being constructed using hydraulic drilling device had partially lost its alignment of about half a metre due to a problem with the electrical sensors and the rectification was causing the delay.

The underpass would be opened for traffic immediately after the work was over, they said.
