The Jayanagar 4th Block shopping complex, which was gutted a few months ago, will be rebuilt soon.
Now, a six-storeyed structure will come up in its place which will accommodate a fruits and vegetable market, a two-floor parking lot and a theatre. “The burnt-out building, including the Janata Bazaar, will be demolished to make way for this structure,” Jayanagar MLA B N Vijayakumar said at a meeting of the residents.
A private firm will build two floors in this complex.
He said the project would be completed in nine months. Till then, vendors will be accommodated on the footpath in front of the complex.
Residents’ woes
“Remove the hawkers from our area,” said many residents of the area, who had come with a long list of complaints. “These vegetable vendors in front of my house are a nuisance; they treat the road as their home,” sadi Shantamma, a resident of Jayanagar 9th Block.
There were many such complaints from residents who felt hawkers were responsible for all the chain-snatching incident in their area.
Vijayakumar promised to solve their problems in 15 days. This problem has been brought to his notice several times and they want to rid Jayanagar of these hawkers. He said this is not possible and that he would find an alternative space for these hawkers. The other problems that residents faced related to bikers creating nuisance, space congestion, less number of bus routes, etc.
