Bangalore: The heavy rain that lashed the city on Monday evening uprooted many trees besides affecting the devotees who had gathered for the annual feast at St. Mary’s Basilica in Shivajinagar.

The sudden shower caused a huge traffic jam at Bamboo Bazaar junction near Shivajinagar for more than three hours between 7.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. as the devotees thronged the roads in their attempt to rush back to their homes.

Many buses and other light motor vehicles, which were entering the city from Banaswadi, Lingarajapuram, K.R. Puram and Nagawara took nearly 90 minutes to reach Queen’s Road from Coles Park area. Huge traffic jam was witnessed on Cunningham Road, Miller’s Road, Cantonment Railway Station Road, Netaji Road and adjoining roads.

Reports of tree fall were received by the control rooms of the BBMP from Sadashivanagar, Vijayanagar and Srirampura localities.
