We’ll develop city even if we have to take a loan: CM

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: It was a day of promises and more promises. The promising CM had several on his list — construction of bridges, repair of storm water drains, construction of roads, repair of existing ones, airstrips for every district.
As the BJP government completed 100 days on Tuesday, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa spent the day also inaugurating a slew of infrastructure projects and laying foundation stones to a host of works — most of which were being talked about for years now.
The CM had some quick-fix solutions too! Like setting up an experts committee to look into the quality aspect of civic works and consulting all parties to solve traffic and civic woes.
Like his predecessors, Yeddyurappa also presented his dream of a world class city at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Dr Raj Kumar Memorial glass house on BBMP’s central office premises.
“We will develop Bangalore even if it requires us to avail of a loan of Rs 10,000 crore,” he declared.
Shifting focus to the state, he said that in the next two years, every district would have an airstrip to facilitate industrial growth. From September 20, all district-level administration officials will be required to go to the hobli level to ensure that people don’t have to stand in long queues at various offices to get their work done.
There was more. He said all tender processes needed to be speeded up and civic works are to be finished soon. Funds for major infrastructure works were handed over by the government to various civic agencies.
Earlier, Yeddyurappa inaugurated a rail overbridge on HMT Main Road, Mathikere, constructed jointly by department of railways and the BBMP.
The BBMP has developed 300 parks and gardens around the city. Five major parks have been identified for beautification and development in various places, including at Frazer Town and Yelahanka.
The CM gave away sites to the widows of Col Vasanth Venugopal and Col Jojan Thomas, martyrs who lost their lives while protecting the borders of the country. Young film director Master Kishan was also allotted a site by the BDA. Several other projects like upgrading of Vrishabhavathi Valley from Magadi Road to Mysore Road, renovation of major storm water drains and development of water supply lines were announced. The officials and workers of BBMP contributed one day’s salary, amounting to a total of Rs 50 lakh, to the CM’s Relief Fund to be given to the flood victims in Bihar. Some of the measures highlighted by Yeddyurappa were: An experts committee to check quality of civic works to be set up. Airstrips in all districts in two years. Construction of works related to roads, bridges and water to be taken up. Five major gardens in Bangalore.
