RUB works to begin soon
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The National Highways Authority of India has assured that tenders to expand the width of the Road Under Bridge at Beniganahalli will be floated on or before August 26 and work would commence within two months.

The announcement was made after over 300 persons, led by K R Puram MLA Nandish Reddy, staged a protest near the bridge on Thursday.

The government has also decided to hold a meeting in this connection at the Vidhana Soudha on Friday with the General Manager of South Western Railway, Praveen Kumar and Reddy.

Earlier, at 8.45 am, the protestors shouted slogans against Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and the UPA government. Apart from a large number of BJP workers, residents of K R Puram, HAL Block, Devasandra, Horamavu, Kalkere, Vijinapura, Pai Layout, (A and B) Narangapura took part. Traffic was not disrupted during this nearly 90 minute dharna as the protesters lined on the corner of Old Madras Road. In a bid to grab attention, a few also squatted on the railway track over the bridge for ten minutes.

Devaraj, Block President of HAL, alleged that the NH as well as Railways were deliberately delaying the project as the BJP is in power in the State. He also threatened to intensify agitation if the NH does not keep up its word on issuing tenders by August 26.
