A day without water
A day without water
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Wednesday was the first of the announced four-day water shutdown in many areas in the City by BWSSB. People have planned different ways to tackle the crisis. Here is a round-up of how a few are gearing up to tackle the crisis...
The Shanti Niketan Residents Association plans to hire a private tanker with a 6,000-litre water capacity. Its president Ramakrishna plans to call for volunteers who will accompany the tanker door-to-door and stop for two or three minutes at each house. There are nearly 450 houses and all of them will benefit, he added.
Anees Ahmed, Regional Manager (Marketing) at Anthrax Technologies and a resident of HBR Layout said that water came in a trickle on Wednesday. “If it continues tomorrow, we will hire a private tanker by paying Rs 250 for it.”
Benny, a resident of Lingarapuram speaks of the need to economise in a big way by consuming less water during the four days. Mrs Thomas of Pai Layout in Old Madras Road said, “We do not get drinking water on normal days too. So, it is like any other day for me.” There was a similar response by a few others too.
As Wednesday was the first waterless day, the stored up water was utilised today by many and so they did not experience any real problem. The real impact might be experienced in the coming days.
Work is on
Meanwhile, a top BWSSB source said they were working on a war-footing to complete work related to the pipeline.
It is likely to be completed tomorrow but restarting and pumping the water will take time. Hence, we have announced a four-day shutdown.
Protest
Meanwhile, over 100 members of the Karnataka Dalitha Sangarsha Samithi staged a protest in front of the BWSSB office at Cauvery Bhavan demanding drinking water for the residents of New Bagalur Layout. They protest began at 11 am and lasted for an hour.
