Heavy rain throws life in city out of gear
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Heavy rains continued to lash the City on Tuesday. Two trees came crashing down in two separate incidents in Tilaknagar and near Ashok Pillar in Jayanagar respectively. However, there were no reports of loss of lives and properties...
The heavy rainfall created havoc as the traffic movement was adversely affected and water entered into the houses in several areas. For residents of many areas in the City, it was double trouble since power supply was disrupted for hours. People at night had a tough time reaching home as in many places the streetlights were not functioning due to power failure.
Motorists had a tough time negotiating the flooded roads. Water logging was reported near National Dairy Research Institute in Adugodi for nearly two hours. Water entered into the houses in Munireddypalya (JC Nagar), Gangenahalli and Hebbal. Traffic moved at a snai’s pace in these areas.
In Padmanabhanagar along the Ring Road, road was blocked due to water logging caused by overflowing drains.
Traffic disrupted
Traffic movement was partially disrupted for some time. Rain water entered into the office of Laggere Freedom Fighters Society and several other houses in the vicinity in Laggere. Several houses were inundated in Rajgopalnagar 3rd cross.
In the Majestic area, the flooded roads caused severe hardship for people who had to get to the Kempegowda bus stand and the city railway station on time.
The City received a good spell of rains on Tuesday night due to the upper air cyclonic system between Telangana and Sri Lanka. It rained due to the trough at about 3.5 km above the sea level. Bangalore was falling between the trough, due to which there were rains, said sources in Met Centre.
The City recorded 17 mm rainfall while the airport centre recorded 28 mm. The weather is likely to be partly cloudy on Wednesday and rain or thunders showers were likely by the evening or night, the sources said.
