Readying City for monsoon

IT, BT and BWSSB minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, who is also in charge of Bangalore North, on Friday held a meeting to review the water, power and infrastructure situation in 14 Assembly constituencies under his jurisdiction.


Katta said tenders have been called for drilling borewells in the new BBMP areas to mitigate drinking water scarcity. “Work to drill borewells will begin in a month,” he said.

Katta asked BBMP officials to take preparatory steps to face the monsoon, especially in the low-lying areas. A top BWSSB official said, “We have called for tenders and the deadline is end of this month. If the response to the tenders is good, we will start works at the earliest.”

BBMP Commissioner S Subramanya said 186 rain-sensitive localities have been identified in the City and special attention will be given to these areas.

BBMP control room will function round-the-clock, he said. Bescom and BWSSB officials will also be present in the control room.

MLAs Krishna Byregowda, Dinesh Gundu Rao, S Raghu, N L Narendra Babu, Dr Ashwathnarayana, K G George and Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavalli participated.

KATTA ASSUMES OFFICE

Minister for Excise, IT and BT Katta Subramanya, on Friday, assumed his office in Vikasa Soudha after performing pooje for long hours. He occupied the chair in his chamber at 12.05 pm amidst chanting of mantras by a group of priests.

He along with his family members performed pooje before occupying the chair.
Reacting to Congress leaders’ comments on performing poojas in Vidhana Soudha, he said: “There are instances where ministers of the Congress too did pooja before occupying the seat of power.” The third floor in Vikasa Soudha was filled with hundreds of Naidu’s followers. His cabinet colleagues and party leaders wished him on the occasion.
