Rain slows down underpass work

Rain slows down underpass work
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: The underpass near the Vijayanagar toll gate, which was supposed to be completed by May-end, will be delayed by some months due to rain. Rain water has collected in the construction site, which has become the main obstacle for the work to continue. If the monsoon is heavy this time, the delay might be longer.
Officials at the construction site are hiring labourers only if there were no rain a day earlier. Pumping out rain water has become routine at the site.
Work at the underpass is being done from two sides. The Yeshwanthpur side is almost complete, while the Vijayanagar side is in progress. The 500-metre-long underpass costs Rs 36 crore and the maximum time given to complete the project was 18 months. Work on the underpass started in May 2006.
Metro Rail causing delay
A Metro track passes through the same place and work taken up by the Metro Rail authorities near the underpass is another reason for the delay.
“We are working day and night to complete the project early,” said executive engineer Nagaraj Murthy.
