BANGALORE: World Environment Day on the theme ‘CO2 - Kick the Bad Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy’ was celebrated across the city on Thursday.
Members of Bharat Scouts and Guides along with environmentalists staged a route march and skits to save nature. Drawing, painting and speech competitions were also organised for children.
S Lalithamma, Joint Director Dept of Youth Services and Sports was present. Many institutions organised day-long academic events to make children aware of the need for protecting the environment.
Students of Institute of Business Management and Research launched the campaign ‘Save the Earth’ by planting saplings on their campus.
BBMP will organise a month-long initiative on environment conservation. The University of Agricultural Sciences celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ with a massive afforestation programme.
More than 6000 saplings of 20 different species will be planted in a span of 10 days. M S Ramiah Medical College and Teaching Hospital celebrated by felicitating Balle Bahadhur, a staff member responsible for the eco-friendly ambience on the campus.
