Fuelling food prices

Fuelling food prices
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Increase in the price of LPG by Rs 50 exclusive of taxes, has left the city hotels and restaurants in the lurch, with no other option but to increase the prices of food items...

City hoteliers believe that the eventual price hike of the food items is inevitable.

Talking about the price increase, K N Vasudev Adiga, President, Bangalore Hotels’ Association said, “We will have to increase the price on the menu card because of the fuel price hike. The diesel price increase is the major area of concern as the transportation of food ingredients and essential commodities will impact the food item cost.”

Adiga explained, “There is a possibility that the diesel price increase may eventually increase the milk price too keeping the transportation aspect in mind. We will wait for about three-four weeks, examine the situation and will conduct a meeting before increasing the food items’ price.”

Another hotelier, Seetharam Shetty, owner of Sreedevi Veg in Jayanagar said that LPG price increase is the worst. Seetharam Shetty complained, “hoteliers are already facing shortage of labourers. Besides the price of vegetables, oil and other essential commodities have also been increased. It is inevitable to increase food items’ price on the menu. Customers on the other end will have to bear the brunt.”

Kavita S, homemaker said, “Just about four to five months back, food prices in restaurants were increased. With the pertrol, LPG hike, I’m sure it will have an impact on the price again. My family eats out once a week regularly. If the prices are increased, we will have to stop eating out or cut down to just once a month.”

Sreedharan H, a senior citizen said, “The coffee and tea may become a costly affair, in a few months ahead.”
