Protest over poor infrastructure
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The Peenya Industries Association, an umbrella organisation of entrepreneurs and industries staged a massive protest at the Mahatma Gandhi Park on M G Road, seeking immediate attention to their grievances.
PIA President K V Rajendra Kumar, who submitted a memorandum to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, said the authorities concerned should ensure speeding up of the road highway work on NH 4 (Tumkur-Mangalore Road).
“The road has been reduced to a mess. We do want the road to be widened, but the NHAI work is progressing at a tardy pace. There are over 5,000 industries at Peenya, employing about five lakh people of which half a lakh are women” he said.
The association also rued the alleged inaction by BWSSB in execution of underground drainage and water supply development projects in Peenya.
Kumar added that road accidents and traffic jams have become a daily affair, with pedestrians being knocked down by heavy vehicles. It is a nightmare crossing the road, as the authorities have dug up the highway on both sides and erected barricades.
PIA has also demanded reduction in prices of steel and other industrial raw materials whose cost has risen over 70 percent in the last three months.
