Traffic violators, beware! The police now have in place a unique traffic management centre (TMC) which enables them to keep tabs on erring motorists.

The TMC will monitor 40 junctions in the City. This initiative, a first in the State, will help the traffic personnel keep a vigil without a sweat. The centre, a part of the B-TRAC-2010, was launched by Home Secretary Vatsala Vatsa on Friday. It is designed to house traffic wireless system, surveillance system and signalling system.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security) Praveen Sood said the TMC will help in research and planning besides implementing traffic norms. The TMC - fitted with four giant screens - aims at covering 182 signals soon. “To begin with, we’ve started with 40 junctions. Another 40 will be soon added. We plan to cover 400 junctions by December. A team will look into the feed coming in from the field based on certain parameters at the click of the mouse. This will be communicated to other officers for immediate action,” he said.
Forty high resolution and riot-proof surveillance cameras with a range of 1 km have been fitted in various parts of the City. The feed sent by cameras will be used by traffic engineers for analysing and communicating the desired output on the field. The data obtained will also help the police detect and fine traffic violators.
