Poll promises galore on Blore infrastructure

Leaders of different political parties on Friday promised to do their best to tackle infrastructure related problems of Bangalore City when they come to power at a discussion on Suvarna Bengalooru Pranalike-A Sharing of Political Manifesto organised by Janaagraha.


BJP leader Ramachandra Gowda said that his party would take steps to have a five-year term for the mayor of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) instead of one year at present and appoint a dedicated officer as it’s Commissioner.
Besides using the corridor railway track to a maximum extent, importance would be given for developing radial roads. Public opinion would also be mobilised towards making the central portion of the City a traffic-free zone. “We want to make Bangalore a livable and future city,” he observed.
Chairman of KPCC Manifesto Committee C K Jaffer Sharief underscored the need for having a long term perspective for tackling the City’s problems.
Senior JD(S) leader Narayanaswamy said that his party would pay greater attention for formation of more layouts, construction of flyovers, improvement of public transport and widening of roads.
National General Secretary of BSP P G R Sindhia said that infrastructure needs to be developed simultaneously both in rural and urban areas.
He suggested some short and long term measures for checking the migration to the City and called for a greater coordination between BBMP, local urban bodies and also grama panchayats.
Former Chief Minister S M Krishna said he would take the criticism that he is a “IT-BT Man” as a compliment. As a reply to his critics, Krishna said that largely due to the contribution of IT-BT sector, State’s tax base has increased by leaps from Rs 3000 crore in 1999 to Rs 31,000 crore in 2008. “There was a vision behind the step”, he remarked.
