Forest officials on Saturday night raided a night club on Residency Road and seized a dead cobra in a glass jar filled with whiskey.

A team led by Assistant Conservator of Forest Puttaswamy raided the NYX Elite Club acting on a tip-off from a wildlife enthusiast.

The jar, which had an icon of Centaur-half man, half horse, had a dead cobra inside it and was kept in full display atop the bar counter.

The Saturday night crowd, which had gathered in large numbers at the rooftop of the premises of the club was reportedly tipping on the alcohol from the container, which apparently was in huge demand and was served at exorbitant cost.

Interrogation
The forest department sleuths, who entered the dimly lit club at about 8 pm, took possession of the glass jar and questioned the management and staff of the club. Even as the interrogation was going on, the party hoppers swayed to jazzy numbers as if nothing had happened.

The revellers went on in their ‘routine’, unmindful of the raid. Initially some of them were stopped in the entrance but later they were allowed to get in by the bouncers.

The District Forest Officer Vanashri told Deccan Herald that the raid was carried out following complaints from a customer who was also a wildlife enthusiast.

She said the possibilities are bleak that the liquor becomes more potent with the dead cobra.
“Drinking from a container carrying a dead cobra may have created excitement. Cobra is a scheduled 2 animal under the Wildlife Protection Act,” said Vanashri. It is yet to be investigated whether the snake contained venom also, she added.

The revellers continued to party after the officials left the premises.
