Bangalore: The BMIC project has got a reprieve after facing many a hurdle during the JD-(S)-led coalition government.
Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Saturday summoned the promoters, Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises and is reported to have asked to give in writing the land required for completing the peripheral and link roads.
Thakur was keen on knowing obstacles facing the first phase of the project. Work has been stalled in nine places due to non-availability of land. Will high-speed rail be on track soon?
Bangalore: Governor Rameshwar Thakur, who summoned NICE officials for details on the BMIC project on Saturday, had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court seeking time to take a re-look at the project. Ever since the agreement was inked between the promoters and the government in 1997, the project has been plagued by controversies. It worsened during former CM H D Kumaraswamy’s tenure, who stopped the work by declining to provide land for NICE. He had filed a petition in the apex court seeking permission to scrap the project.
High-speed rail: The governor is said to have promised to take action in the next couple of days on the high-speed rail connecting BRV Grounds (MG Road) and the new Bangalore International airport. The assurance came after Delhi Metro Rail Corporation MD E Sreedharan gave a graphic description of the project. The government had roped in Sreedharan to use his expertise to speed up the project.
