Bangalore: Providing connectivity to the Bangalore International Airport seems to be governor Rameshwar Thakur’s top priority.
He made a specific mention of this aspect during his address at the National Development Council in New Delhi on Wednesday. “We are taking necessary steps to ensure connectivity to the airport that opens in March 2008,’’ he said.
The Metro Rail project, taken up in partnership with the Centre, is progressing well, said Thakur, adding that: “The government has also identified a host of other measures to ease mobility in the city. Several projects are being implemented under the JNNURM’’, he added.
“The state will promote public-private partnerships to upgrade, expand and develop infrastructure. The infrastructure policy envisages this,’’ he added. He noted that the investment in infrastructure was likely to double in five years and was set to increase to 9% of the GDP in 2012 from the present 5%.
New police division to be set up
The city police commissionerate will have a separate division for the security and traffic control of the new airport.
Thus, with the existing six divisions one more — North-East — will be created. The police said the administration has asked for a detailed report on the separate division and it will be submitted in two days. It contains details about the number of police stations, sub-divisions, traffic sub-divisions required.
