Bangalore: Broken chairs, cigarette butts and pan masala marks on the walls. Welcome to Town Hall.
The dilapidated condition of C Puttanna Chetty Town Hall drew the attention of bureaucrats who had gathered there at the launch of Sir MV Auditorium and KAS’s officers website, on Sunday.
PWD principal secretary Sudhir Krishna did not hide his disappointment: “Town Hall is visited by tourists. Its condition is pathetic.’’
Built in European classical style, Town Hall is booked throughout the year for meetings, plays, magic shows and dance. The 72-year-old landmark can accommodate 900 people.
Earlier, speaking at the launch of website, chief secretary P B Mahishi said econnection will help the common man to get in touch with officers.
“Most of the bureaucrats join the service with the mindset of acquiring plum postings in and around Bangalore. Karnataka does not constitute only Bangalore and few other cities. We must be ready to serve even in border cities like Gulbarga and Bidar,’’ the chief secretary said.
He also said the present set of KAS officers is a big talent pool and should be utilised in an appropriate manner.
