Residents suffer, BBMP turns a blind eye here
Bangalore: Residents of Sanjeevappa Layout in Jeevanahalli can neither bring their cars out of their houses nor can they take their vehicles inside their compound. This queer situation has been created by civic authorities, who have dug up a drain on the main road a month ago and still have not relaid the same.
The civic authorities — without making any alternative arrangements — have dug up the busy junction where the Jeevanahalli road meets the Banaswadi road. Result: Heavy traffic flow on the narrow road inside the Sanjeevappa Layout, which is parallel to the Banaswadi road. Following this, residents of Sanjeevappa Layout are even unable to park their vehicles outside their homes as heavy vehicles including trucks, school buses and tractors ply on the road day and night.
According to the residents, the narrow road is full of potholes. When complained, the BBMP men patched up the potholes with sand, instead of bitumen.
V E Thomas, a resident, said: “We can’t even walk on the road and there’s no concept of a footpath.” “We cannot enter our houses during peak hours due to traffic jams just outside our compound,” said one of the residents.
Another resident, Mannivannan, who works with an MNC, said: “There’s very little tar left on various portions of the road. Also, there’s heavy movement of tractors, autorickshaws, trucks, and buses that is weakening the road foundation.”
Also, an alarming volume of dust gathers inside the houses and the problem is compounded by vehicular noise levels, which are much higher than the permissible norms.
