DH News Service, Bangalore:
Traffic on roads from the MG Road to Bellary Road was hit and vehicles were stranded for brief periods till around 3 pm on Monday due to 'Janandolana', the Congress Party workers' mass convention at Palace Grounds.
Janandolana, the Congress Party workers’ mass convention at Palace Grounds, also led to traffic hold-ups in different parts of the Central Business District on Monday. Traffic on roads from the MG Road to Bellary Road was hit and vehicles were stranded for brief periods till around 3 pm.
The Party delegates were spotted in vehicles on Raj Bhavan Road and Cubbon Road, while traffic snarls were reported from Tumkur Road, till C V Raman Road, Aranya Bhavan, CET Cell, Sankey Road, Yeshwanthpur, Jayamahal Road and Nandi Durga Road. The cascading effect of the jams was also felt on the approach roads.
At around 3 pm, when the convention ended, vehicles from the venue started coming out towards Bellary Road, adding to the rush on the road. Though teams of traffic policemen were in place all through the stretch, the long-jam prevailed for around 1 hour.
Admit
While, admitting that the convention had led to public inconvenience, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge said that such issues were part of any democracy. “Moreover, unlike the BJP leaders who staged dharna on M G Road and disrupted the traffic, we did it in Palace Grounds,” he said.
