A wasteland used for dumping garbage has been converted into a park in Mahalakshmipuram in Rajajinagar Assembly constituency.

There was a water line from Thippagondanahalli tank that passes through the land in front of Nandini theatre, measuring 1,44,000 sqft (1800ftX80ft) and for many years the residents have been dumping their garbage here.

But now the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike, with the help of Rajajinagar MLA N L Narendra Babu’s local area development fund, has developed a park there at a cost of Rs 25 lakh.

Walk path, ornamental plants, stone benches all create a tranquil ambience in the area. The park which has been named as Suvarna Mahotsava park was inaugurated by Mr Narendra Babu on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion he lauded the effort that converted a wasteland into a beautiful park.

“As water line passed through that land, it could not be used for any civic amenities. We thought of converting it into a park. Now it is a better space for local people to spend their evenings”, he said. He also said that he had more plans to set up many such parks in his constituency.
