BBMP to raze club house at Games Village

Bangalore: The BBMP has ordered the demolition of a concrete slab on the 1-km raja kaluve, two tennis courts and a club house in the Koramangala National Games Village.
Following a report in The Times of India on September 18, 2007, “Games Village Residents Encroach On Drain Space,’’ which highlighted the encroachment that led to the flooding of Ejipura, the BBMP has decided to crack the whip.
“We conducted an inquiry into the issue and found that the Koramangala National Games Village Club has acquired more than 6,000 sqft of drain space. I have ordered demolition of unauthorised construction and restore the raja kaluve to its original shape. For this, I have sanctioned Rs 6 lakh,’’ said BBMP commissioner S Subramanya.
Soon after the recent floods, the BBMP discovered that a club house and two tennis courts on the Koramangala Valley, a primary reason for the flooding of Ejipura. The culprit is a government department — the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB). The KHB also put up a parking deck was on the valley, cutting through the Games Village. In the second leg, the committee for builders club decided to use the space over the drain to build a club house and two tennis courts.
