BANGALORE: Seven trees were felled on Bellary Road on Thursday to widen the important link to the upcoming international airport at Devanahalli.

Deputy Conservator of Forests S. Shekar said the BBMP had asked for permission to fell 14 trees. “But we have given permission to fell seven trees — five eucalyptus and two gulmohar,” he said.

“We will examine the road alignment again on Monday and study the permission sought on a case by case basis,” he said.

The BBMP would plant two saplings for every tree felled once the alignment was fixed, he said.
