Bangalore: The city recorded 2.5 mm of rain till 5.30 pm on Wednesday. While it was a drizzle in some pockets of the city, it was a downpour in other areas. But it was enough to cause traffic jams on arterial roads. At Trinity Circle, traffic congestion was compounded by the ongoing work for Metro Rail.
Traffic was also hit on Murphy Road, Old Madras Road, Infant Jesus Chruch Road, Kasturinagar, Kalyan Nagar, Jayamahal and Nandidurg roads.
Barring a tree collapsing in Kengeri Satellite Town, no untoward incidents were reported. Roads were inundated due to clogged shoulder drains on many stretches, including Ambedkar Veedhi, Shivajinagar, Jayamahal road, and Sahakarnagar.
According to the Met department, overcast conditions will persist for the next 48 hours.
Though skies have been overcast for couple of days, it has not translated into appreciable rain, the Met department said.
Wednesday’s showers led to the shutdown of a transformer at HAL sub-station, thus cutting off power supply to Bangalore East, including Marathahalli and surrounding areas. Bescom had resorted to load-shedding in these areas.
