BANGALORE: On the outset of the completion of three years of existence, Ranga Shankara will be hosting their 1000th onstage performance with the play ‘Pampabharata’ by troupe Samudaya on September 12.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Founder and Creative Director Arundhati Nag said, “ The 1000th show is very significant for us given that we had committed to relentless theatre in a city where a dedicated space for theatre did not exist”. “ A concentrated effort for making amateur theatre available to people has to be put in with the help of media. Theatre is a powerful medium to spread information and awareness. A movement among the audience is also necessary,” Arundhati Nag added.

Besides, theatre artist Girish Karnad stressed on the continuity and commitment towards theatre for the growth of theatre movement.

About future plans, Arundhati Nag said, “More theatre and better theatre is what we aspire to do. We are looking at a theatre for children and reaching out to people. We are also looking at the possibility of conducting workshops with international collaborations.”

Also present were theatre artist B Jayashree and Rohini Nilekani of Akshara Foundation.

The Ranga Shankara Theatre Festival 2007 which will be held between October 19 and October 28 was also announced on the ocassion.
