Its a downpour of woes in City

After the demolition work began, power supply in Puttenahally has been stopped. Residents are struggling hard without sufficient water supply.
“I have every record to prove that my building is authorised. But the Palike officials did not allow me to prove it, said Lokanathan whose four-storey building at 28th main, Puttenahalli was demolished on Sunday night.
He and his family members took shelter at vehicles parking area in a neighbour building on Sunday night. “None of us could eat or drink anything since yesterday night. To be frank I am 99 per cent dead. I have lost hopes”, he said. Lokanathan, contractor of iron works, has six children and aged parents to take care of.
He claims that he has paid betterment charges and taken permission for his plan from officers concerned. “The BBMP staff started demolition work all of a sudden. I was not given even half an hour time to show property records”, he said. When this reporter asked him to show his property records, Lokanathan questioned
“The entire building has been demolished. Will I get back my building if I show records?”.
Vijay, a civil engineer and relative of Lokanathan, said family members have been searching for a house to shift their things. “Lokanathan’s family is virtually driven to streets”, he said.
Factories to move
Jayaram Industries, panel boards making unit in 30th main, Puttenahalli, was also demolished by the Palike staff.
Somashekhar, owner of Jaya Precision Plastics, a neighbour industry, said that the Palike officers did not allow owner of Jayaram industries even to take his machines out. Machines were also damaged in the demolition process.
Somashekhar’s unit was still submerged in rainwater on Monday. “Three machines are damaged in rainwater. Moreover I have no business since Thursday last. I was doing a business of Rs 24,000 every day. Total loss for me would be around Rs 6 lakh”, he said.
The industrialists in the locality have decided to shift to JC Industries area on Kanakapura Road. “Rain havoc is never ending problem in Puttenahalli. If we continue to stay here we can’t continue our business”, he said.
No power
After the demolition work began, power supply in Puttenahally has been stopped. Residents are struggling hard without sufficient water supply.
A building contractor, Babu Naidu, , said “I have stored water in the under ground sump. But I can’t use it as there is no power to pump water. Even borewells of the Palike are not functioning. If power supply is not restored soon we will have to fetch drinking water from far of places”, he said.
NO CONSENSUS
Bangalore, DHNS: Will the demolition drive continue? - When this question was posed to Health Minister R Ashok and BBMP commissioner S Subramanya, their answers were contradictory.
Ashok, who is In-charge of Bangalore Urban district, said the demolition of unauthorised structures constructed on storm water drains will continue.
However the commissioner S Subramanya said that the demolition drive ended on Monday evening.
“We will not continue the drive on Tuesday”, he added.
