Metro work slows down

Bangalore: The construction of the viaduct on MG Road has progressed at a rather slow pace. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRC), which has awarded the contract to a Hyderabadbased company at a cost of Rs 138.55 crore, has set a 27-month deadline to complete construction along the 7-km Reach One between MG Road and Byappanahalli.
Construction of test piles on MG Road and at Isolation Hospital on Old Madras Road has been completed. Testing arrangements, including, testing platform, fabrication and making rock anchors are in progress at both locations. Boring of further piles on the route is in progress.
β€œAt the casting yard, construction of cement godown, erection of the first batching plant and calibration of the same is complete. While the quality control laboratory has been set up, office building for site-office of BMRC and construction of casting beds, etc are in progress,’’ BMRC sources said. The construction of high compound walls for the Isolation Hospital, 515 Army Base Workshop, MES Centre on Old Madras Road and Manekshaw Parade Ground are in progress. Nine trees, which were translocated from MG to Manekshaw Parade Grounds, have started sprouting leaves.
