BANGALORE: Apart from the concept of vertical growth to help save land, the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) of Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) also a few proelite, eco-friendly features.

Row house concept is one of them. BDA, the agency entrusted with the execution, will take up the ‘row house’ idea which with its vast-shared terrace will facilitate rain harvest as well. But here, the BDA will not directly build houses, rather, it will assist allottees building them to specifications.

Speaking to this website's newspaper, BDA Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda said there was a provision for the construction of Row Houses in some of the premium areas of the City under the master plan- 2015.

"To start with, the site should be a minimum of 50 X 80 dimension. Owners will build and we will assist," he said.

"These sites are earmarked in places where there is water scarcity like the Northern and Eastern parts of Bangalore. The specific aim is to promote rain water harvesting and conserve water.

Row houses can also use water economically unlike those in independent houses and flats," he reasoned.

The row houses will not only help develop the City in a balanced manner but also help improve its landscapes. The BDA’s role is restricted to being a facilitator - help people develop and maintain city contour in a balanced and ecofriendly way. But Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme is not ruled out, added Gowda.
