Bangalore: Those delicious Sunday brunches, lip-smacking ice-creams, pastas and
pastries will no more be a traditional ritual on MG Road. Tradition will give way to renovation, though only for some time.
The establishments in the Kannan building, one of the oldest on the city’s most popular road, will have a complete makeover. History traces the building to 1910, when MG Road was called South Parade.
The old tenants — GK Vale, Lawrence and Mayo, the Lake View Milk Bar and Jamals — have all made announcements of their new temporary addresses. The shops are to return after two years and will be housed in the new plush environs. In their place will come up a commercial complex where space will be provided for these shops.
“Till then, it would be difficult for customers,’’ says Anjaneya Reddy, manager of Lake View, which will move to St Mark’s Road. “Our regular customers are complaining of shortcomings at the new location,” he laments.
The Jamals move to Pavillion Mall and G K Vale to Church Street. Lawrence and Mayo will go to Barton Centre.
