BANGALORE: The state government is planning to set up a science city near Bannerghatta, on 100 acres belonging to the Central Reserve Police Force, said Science and Technology Minister Ramachandre Gowda.

After meeting his Orissa counterpart Sanjivkumar Sahu here on Saturday he told reporters that the CRPF has 300 acres near Bannerghatta and the state had asked the Centre to hand over 100 acres of this land in exchange of as many acres in some other parts of the city. The CRPF officials have agreed to hand over the land, he added.

“The Centre has agreed to provide 50 per cent funds required for the science city,’’ he added. He said that the government was also setting up science centres at Mangalore and Dharwad with an expenditure of Rs 3 crore on each centre.

“The state government had planned to establish five such centres. But the Centre gave its approval to only two,’’ he added.
