Saplings to be planted around train lines in city

Saplings to be planted around train lines in city
The BBMP is taking up this greening initiative along the railway lines in the city.

How many times have you traveled into the city by train and wondered about the stench along the railway tracks? Now there's some hope though. A 1.3 km stretch of land along the railway track from Windsor Manor Bridge to the Railway Underbridge at Seshadripuram has been cleaned and over 10,000 saplings have been planted.
Thanks to the initiative taken by the residents of Kumara Park West and senior citizens in the area, the Southern Railways authorities, who had to offer formal permission to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) to take up work, did so, and the BBMP swung into action.
The residents, after obtaining permission from the railway authorities, planned to take up action as part of a public-private participation (PPP) initiative. However, when they failed to mobilise resources, the BBMP took up a massive cleaning operation and work is almost complete now.
According to Krishna Udapudi, Deputy Conservator of Forests, BBMP, a survey has been taken up to find out the state of affairs along railway tracks. Based on this report, work will be carried out along railway tracks.
A close look at stretches along Majestic, Byappanahalli, Yeshwanthpur, Yelahanka and Kengeri will tell you the story. It's a massive task, according to Krishna Udapudi, and will be taken up in phases. The whole task is expected to take two years for completion. After lakes in the city, railway lines are the biggest challenge facing the BBMP, according to Udapudi.
