Rain causes chaos on roads

Power supply disrupted in many areas; traffic jam on Residency Road

BANGALORE: Moderate to heavy showers lashed the city on Thursday night affecting movement of traffic and disrupting power supply in many areas.

Water logging was reported on Cubbon Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, near Lalbagh Westgate and near Kino cinema. Some people fell off their two-wheelers while negotiating roads that turned slippery after the rain.

Traffic was affected on CMH Road, which was recently made one-way to facilitate the work on metro rail. The presence of barricades on the road added to the problem. A huge traffic jam was reported on Residency Road. According to BBMP control room, there were tree falls near Cauvery School in Indiranagar and in Sharada Colony in Basaveshwaranagar.

Trapped in lift

Nine persons were trapped in a lift nearly for an hour in Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences on Thursday night. According to the Fire and Emergency Services control room, power cut and overloading jammed the lift. Their personnel rescued the trapped people.

Black out

There was no power supply in Rajajinagar, Basaveshwaranagar, Basavanagudi, Girinagar, Srinagar, Jayanagar and Thyagarajanagar. While power supply was restored by 11 p.m. in some areas, others were awaiting the supply.

The rains abruptly ended a cultural programme organised in memory of thespian Rajkumar and writer K.S. Narasimhaswamy by Ramaa Foundation in Bugle Rock garden. The rain started soon after the audience heard some of the poems composed by Narasimhaswamy. Among those who read the poems included Mukhyamantri Chandru and journalist Ravi Belegere.
