Works on two grade separators soon: Jairaj

The civil works on grade separators at R V Teachers’ College junction and Tagore Circle junction will start in two months, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner K Jairaj said on Wednesday.

While the ground work has been completed, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike is awaiting the State’s clearance to start works, Mr Jairaj said after a review meeting with the senior officials of the Palike's civil works department.

He was reviewing the progress of five grade separators, five underpasses, elevated core ring roads, major road widening projects and arterial road works, and other projects.

The outlay for the two grade separators is Rs 16.5 crore and Rs 15.95 crore respectively.

The Commissioner has set a fresh deadline for grade separator works at Malleswaram Circle (Rs 16.41 crore), Gali Anjaneya junction (Rs 29 cr) and Yeshwanthpur junction (Rs 28 cr), which are under progress.

Malleswaram grade separator will have to be completed by June and Gali Anjaneya junction and Yeshwanthpur junction grade separators by December.

Progress report

The work on underpasses have been taken up a cost of Rs 20 crore at Puttenahalli, Kanakapura Road, Kadirenahalli, CNR Rao Circle adjoining Ring Road.

The pre-construction works have been completed on these underpasses, while the construction will begin within a month.

Elevated Ring Road

The Rs 1,500-crore project covering 29 km has received ‘Expression of Interest’ at the national and international level.

The Elevated Ring Road starts from Yeshwanthpur and passes through Karnataka Bhavan junction, Shivashankar Circle, Adugodi junction, Gurudwara junction, Jayamahal and rejoins Yeshwanthpur. Steps will be taken to start work on the project by this month-end.

Road widening

The Palike is awaiting the State’s approval for road widening, while the civil works will begin soon through KRDSL.

The Palace Road - 1.75 km (Rs 2.99 crore); Race Course Road -1.66 km (Rs 5.25 crore); Kasturba Road - 0.77 km (Rs 1.87 crore); Seshadripuram Road - 1 km (Rs 2.42 crore) will be taken up in the first phase and completed by this month-end.

Arterial roads

Eighteen major roads under ‘Package 1’ in West Zone will be developed covering a length of 31.47 km at a cost of Rs 21.5 crore.

Under ‘Package 1’ in West Zone, 25 major roads will be developed covering a length of 43.5 km at a cost of Rs 40 crore. In South Zone, 12 major roads covering a distance of 38.90 km at a cost of Rs 40 crore will be developed.

Civil works

In all, 55 major roads will be developed covering a length of 114 km at a cost of Rs 101.5 crore.

The Commissioner said the civil works for the project will start by this month-end.
