BANGALORE: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has taken asphalting on Kasturba Road under Karnataka Municipal Reforms Project (KMRP).

On Tuesday, pavement makers were busy laying bitumen concrete on otherwise good road. Residents of nearby localities complained that the work was not necessary as the road was in good condition. The stretch is part of KMRP package II which would cost Rs 65-crore.

BBMP co-ordinator for KMRP Puttamaligaiah said that the road was included in the project as it was in bad shape while the project was prepared two years ago. KMRP works are taken in four packages at a total cost of Rs 130 crore and high density traffic corridors were selected based on a survey by a consultant.

During the delay in finalising the project, roads were repaired under ward works and it was not as per KMRP specifications. Palike had entered into a contract with KNR constructions for the work, said Puttamaligaiah. The Kasturba Road would be relaid from Hudson Circle to M G Road till Minsk Square.

In addition to KMRP works, Palike has recently completed asphalting of Raj Bhavan Road from Chalukya Circle to Minsk Square.
