Bangalore: This summer, get ready to apply an extra coat of sunscreen lotion or carry an umbrella to protect yourself from the blazing Sun.
Thanks to the ever-increasing pollution, thin tree cover and shortage of rainfall, the city is steadily getting hotter — at least by one to two degree Celsius every year.
“Lack of rainfall has made the surface area dry and the hot weather months — March, April and May — will be hotter this year, with May being the hottest,’’ Meteorological department official B Puttanna told the Times of India.
The average temperature recorded till date is: 32.40 C in March, 33.60 C in April and 32.70 C in May.
These temperatures may be higher this year.
The temperature in the city will at least be 1.20 C higher than its suburbs. “At present, the Sun is in the Southern Hemisphere and on March 23 it will be on the Equator,” said Putanna.
“There will be more of sunlight during April, when the duration of day and night will almost be equal. The temperature may dip only after May,’’ explained Puttanna.
There may be brief thunder activity in April due to wind pressure from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
Every year, the summer only gets hotter, global warming is much to be blamed for this erratic weather system, Puttanna summed up.
