Protest by fans of Ambarish disrupts traffic in Bangalore

BANGALORE: Nearly 1,500 people, fans of the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and cine star Ambarish, on Tuesday took out a two-wheeler rally from Mandya to Raj Bhavan here to protest against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

After the procession entered Bangalore around 4 p.m., traffic was disrupted in the central parts of the city. When the protesters were on their way to the Raj Bhavan, the police stopped them near the Cubbon Park.

They parked their vehicles inside the Cubbon Park and marched towards Raj Bhavan. They forcibly removed the barricades and tried to barge into Raj Bhavan.

This led to heated exchanges between the police and the protesters. Later, some of the leaders went inside the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi.

Following the procession and the demonstration near the Raj Bhavan, traffic was affected on Raj Bhavan Road, Ambedkar Veedhi, Cunningham Road, Basaveshwara Circle and surrounding areas for nearly an hour.

"We diverted the traffic and ensured that there was no hold up," Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic-Central) K. Eshwar Prasad told The Hindu .

Meanwhile, students and staff of Seshadripuram Law College took out a peaceful procession from the college premises to Mahatma Gandhi statue near Ananda Rao Circle to protest against the tribunal award.
