The new garbage collection contract by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will come into effect from Wednesday. However, it will apply to only three zones (in old BMP limits).

The main feature of the new contract is that all resident welfare associations are involved in the task. The local health officials will conduct cleaning programme in coordination with these associations, according to a BBMP release.

Formal launch

Though BBMP had scheduled a formal launch of the programme by Health Minister R Ashok on March 21, it was put off in the last minute to March 24. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is likely to launch it , according to official sources.
