BETL Watch: Work on 220 piles under way

Work on 220 piles under way
The Times of India

Bangalore: There have been some slippages in timelines for completion of service roads, erection of drains and widening of the main Hosur Road carriageway. But this is not expected to delay the project itself, which, according to officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), will be completed by the committed deadline of July 2008.
An NHAI official said work on some 220 piles (foundations for pillars on which the expressway will be built) is going on. There will be a total of 2,000 pillars.
Land acquisition (16 hectares) at Bommanahalli and Rupen Agrahara for road widening and ramps is under way. Work on three of the four underpasses — at the Bommanahalli, G D Palya, Singasandra and Kudlu junctions — has also just started.
But PWD still needs to act to properly asphalt the road connecting Attibele and Bommasandra to Sarjapur Road, which would help to divert heavy vehicles away from Hosur Road and ease congestion. Is the PWD listening?
Stage of work
Service roads: Of the 10 km to be done, 9 km completed and opened to traffic. Remaining 1 km expected to be completed by March 15.
Erection of drains: 16 km done. 4 km more to be done.
Six-laning of main road: 15 km done. 5 km more to be done. Elevated expressway: 220 piles (foundations for pillars) done. The total is over 2,000.

Why is the PWD working at such a slow speed. Is there someone in the PWD who can be approached to speeden up this work. Can we make the government accountable for the work that it is doing. There should a definite date by which this work should be completed.
