Residents of Cooke Town, under the Residents Welfare Association of Bangalore East (REWABE), will on February 21 organise a mass protest against the delay in work on the proposed ITC Railway Overbridge. The residents will protest the alleged delay tactics of ITC, that has put the project in a limbo.

“We have been in touch with the Railways officials who, in turn, have been holding meetings with the ITC management. However, nothing seems to be coming through from the meetings,” Mr K P Abraham, Secretary, REWABE told Deccan Herald on Monday.

The residents will assemble at the Corporation Park on Milton Street at 4.30 pm on Wednesday and march towards the ITC office, where they will hand over a memorandum, calling for expediting the ROB project.

The Rs 11-crore project had run into rough weather because negotiations with regard to acquisition of land that falls within the ITC premises, had failed. Work on the ROB started in June 2006 and the project is planned to be ready in November 2007.

Encroachments

Wednesday’s protest will also see residents highlighting the by-law violations and footpath encroachments in the area. Mr Abraham said protesters would assemble at Wheeler Road Extension and protest against shop owners who have allegedly encroached upon footpaths in the Cooke Town neighbourhood.
