Protest against delay in work on market

BANGALORE: Members of the Bharatinagar Residents' Forum on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Cox Town Market protesting against the delay in construction of the new market complex. Traders and vegetable vendors raised slogans against the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for delaying the project.

The Cox Town Market was demolished two years ago and officials had promised to build a new complex within a few months. But work on the project is yet to begin, forum president N.S. Ravi said.

"Though the civic body has allocated space for vendors on the footpaths in the area, residents are put to great hardship. With shopkeepers occupying the pavements, traffic jams are the order of the day," he said.
