Devanahalli gets a big push

Devanahalli gets a big push
The Times of India

Bangalore: A taluk which has seen scarce development save for land acquisition, is now slated for an infrastructure overhaul. On Tuesday, development works worth Rs 250 crore were inaugurated at Devanahalli, including basic services like water supply, road works and hospitals.
The consensus of all ministers and MLAs was that the upcoming international airport had provided the muchneeded fillip to infrastructure in the area. Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy laid foundation stones for as many as 76 projects. Yet, despite the groundwork for so many projects, there is one major problem plaguing Devanahalli — water supply.
Devanahalli MLA G Chandranna explained, “Because of the international airport there is a lot of pressure on the area, but it is also because of the airport that development is happening. The biggest problem presently is drinking water. Even if the earth is dug for hundreds of feet, no water surfaces. And if it does, it is infected with fluorides. I request the CM to look into the issue of providing water for this taluk.’’
Another plea to the CM was to protect the interests of farmers and families which lost land to the international airport project. Devanahalli has seen land prices go up overnight. So far, over 5,000 acres of land were acquired for the project.
