BANGALORE: The final notification on the proposed Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike (BBMP) is likely to be issued within 15 days, Health and Family Welfare Minister R. Ashok said on Wednesday.
He told presspersons after inspecting work on the Mathikere Railway Overbridge (ROB), West of Chord Road-Magadi Road underpass and Freedom Park on the premises of the Old Central Jail that the process of forming BBMP was going on at a brisk pace. "The final notification should be issued within 15 days and the officials are on the job," he said.
Mr. Ashok, who is in-charge of Bangalore Urban District, reiterated that elections to the larger body would be held by May.
He said that a case pertaining to the conduct of BMP Council elections was pending before the Karnataka High Court and the Government would abide by the court's directions.
As a first step towards formation of the BBMP, the State Government would fence all its properties and protect them from land-grabbers.
All unauthorised structures on government property would be demolished and the property would be recovered on priority, the Minister said.
Open spaces
Mr. Ashok said the Government would soon appoint a consultant to study the feasibility of having more parks and playgrounds in the BBMP. "We have lots of open spaces in the city and CMC areas. These can be developed into urban green spaces so that Bangalore's lost glory of Garden City can be regained," the Minister said.
Other vacant government properties would be used to house hospitals, school and offices of utility service providers.
